I am a Licensed Art Therapist (LAT) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) offering individual, group, and family art therapy and counseling services for children, adolescents, and adults. I have over 20 years of experience in the mental health field and love to work creatively with people to address issues in a new and different way. I am trained in both art therapy and general counseling so I can use either talk or art therapy or a combination depending on your preference and what will best fit your needs.
I have training and expertise in trauma focused cognitive behavior therapy and family systems. I have worked for several years with adults, adolescents, and children who have experienced sexual abuse and with adolescents and children who have had sexual behavior problems, including adolescents on probation for sexual crimes.

How could art therapy help me?
Art therapy could be an alternative or enhancement to traditional talk therapies. It can be a new way to experience therapy especially if you feel that therapy has not been helpful to you in the past. Art therapy research has shown that it is effective with a wide variety of people and effective in several ways including:
• reducing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and trauma
• promoting relaxation and reducing stress
• improving communication, social skills, and impulsivity
• improving self-esteem and personal insight
• helping to identify and express thoughts and feelings
• helping people to engage in therapy successfully
Art therapy is a specialized type of therapy that involves using your own creative process and art experience to view issues in a new way. You do not have to be a formal artist or even have any art experience to benefit from art therapy, just an open mind and willingness to try something different. Art therapy interventions may be spontaneously created by you or I may suggest interventions that I believe could help address your therapy goals. Art therapy can be an opportunity to explore and address issues that are difficult to express in words or help uncover parts of you that you were not aware of. It can be an alternative language to communicate in, which may be especially helpful for adults and adolescents who find it challenging to verbally express difficult thoughts and feelings and helpful for children who generally use art and play to express themselves.
